Cystic Acne should be treated using on the shelf pimple medication only if it's a very mild case. Serious cases have to be dealt with using Antibiotics. There are lots of powerful drugs available for treating acne. It is highly expensive but effective. It's only available via prescription because it'd cause deformities in babies if taken by pregnant women.
Sometimes antibiotics, vitamin treatments (also available in pill forms), are necessary. There are some forms of acne that will not be cleared up using soap and water. One form, treatable by a medicine that is basically highly concentrated Vitamin D, is called cystic acne. Scrubbing at your face with all of that over the counter when you have this type of acne is only going to make it worse, more painful, and uncomfortable.
Some forms of acne don't go away with washing. They require treatment to make them go away. But normal, regular acne isn't some deadly virus or disease. It's something you get when you are growing up. Washing one's face too often or with warm water is not a good idea either. It causes the face to be agitated, the oil glands to be even more active, and consequently, more acne pimples to appear. There is also no evidence that what we eat causes cystic acne, though it's a generally good idea to eat healthy.
Normal, regular acne isn't the only type of acne there is. Scarring can happen as a part of this "normal, regular" acne, and injections and other drugs are sometimes necessary to treat other forms of acne that don't go away with simple washing.
