My boyfriend is in his mid thirties and as had Cystic Acne since
childhood. At this time is on his face only in a few places and it is on
his back. Years ago, he was on Accutane. We are
not sure what the side effects will be from this. His current doctor has
given him Tetrocyclin which he refused to take. He drinks no coffee. Is
an avid hiker and birder.
There is no reason to believe that Acutane has any permanent side
effects. Why doesn't he try going back on it for a while, perhaps at a
lower dose (40 mg a day) for 6 months? This is not an "alternative"
suggestion, but then I don't see any reason here to look for one.
Cystic acne doesn't respond to very many things.
If Acutane worked for
him before, it will probably work again.
